There has been some talk on the etsy message boards, that several flickr members have been suddenly, without warning, getting their accounts deleted from having etsy tags, etsy shop links, and for sale tags on their photos. This concerns me as I've been on flickr for over 3 years now and most of my photos aren't even backed up. I know that if you post your Etsy shop url, where the item in the photo is for sale, they will take your photos out of the flickr search.
NIPSA stands for Not In Public Site Areas. This is a flag that staff used before we released filters to stop photos that were going against the Community Guidelines from showing up in searches on the site.
Now that we have the new filtering system in place, we're seeing "NIPSA" as more of a member-controlled switch, where you can decide yourself whether or not you'd like to opt out of having your photos turn up in searches on flickr.com, or not. (We've had an opt-out switch like this for 3rd party applications that use the Flickr API for some time now.)
If you see that your account is NIPSA (here), it's probably an artifact of the old system. Make sure that all your content is categorized correctly (photos flagged as photos, screenshots as screenshots etc), and then you can request a review.
To make sure you don't get your flickr account deleted without warning these are the steps you must take:
- Go through all your photos and check your tags. (If you have a lot of photos this may take awhile)
- If you don't want to go through all your tags, go into your flickr account and ask for a flickr review (They will go over your pics in your account and make sure everything is up to their terms of service.
- Make sure that you don't link your etsy shop underneath your photos.
- Don't state underneath your photos that your item in the photo is for sale. (Just post it and if someone is interested enough they will send you a flickr message!)
- Don't tag your photo/item "for sale"
- Don't tag your photo/item with "etsy"
But you ask, what's the point of listing my items with flickr if they won't let me post it for sale? Well, flickr's purpose wasn't to showcase items for sale... It's a website to showcase photos. Their intention was a community of photographers to have a place to post and comment on their pics. People have wanted to turn flickr into a showcase for their stuff for sale on Ebay and Etsy... that's a huge no-no. Don't get mad at flickr just because you can't post a link to your shop url underneath the photo! I have found that Flickr has given me access to tons of other like-minded artists and I have sold tons of items from posting my pics on there... I have a link to my shop on my profile page and they can find your shop that way!
Just a few new TTV shots for now. My eyes have been burning for the last couple days, so I had to go to wally world and buy some allergy eye drops and that helped some. I had to take my new glasses back to wally world too because the lenses already scratched on them and I've only had them for about 10 days. It makes me really frustrated because of all the problems I've been having with America's Best messing up my glasses before, not once, but twice, and now the new glasses I got at wally world are now scratched. I'm not hard on my glasses either. I wear them or when I'm not wearing them I lay them on my desk... I'm scared that the case will even scratch them... Also I've been sneezing most all last night and today and feeling terrible with a headache. I got some work done, but not as much as I would have liked to finish.
I really must finish some custom orders asap before the end of the week. I'm kinda behind on things again. Gah.
I finally made a cardboard contraption to fit over my old Argus 75 camera. I took an old sushi master box and fit it over the camera, cutting and folded it around and taped the mess out of it. It was fairly tall and my kodak had a hard time focusing, so I cut it down to half. This contraption greatly reduces the amount of glare coming from lights or the sun. I even cut out a little place on the top, so my lens will fit nicely and I know the exact place to put my camera each time.
In the TTV group on flickr, I've seen much more nicer contraptions, but I'm not a professional photographer by any means, so this one works just fine for me right now.

Dear Yahoo,
I don't understand the email home page photos that you have. What's the deal with taking a photo of a Kid Rock look alike and what's he have to do with email? This kind of person doesn't do email. They are out drunk almost every night partying, or driving around getting into trouble, or knocking over a 7-11 at 3 am in the morning. Why do I have to look at this person before I log into my email? I realize the photo changes everytime you refresh the page. Sometimes it's a little girl holding up the peace sign riding a ride at the carnival, sometimes it's a woman with a bathroom towel on her head on the beach, sometimes it's a woman shooting water on another woman with a squirt gun, sometimes it's an old man just standing there, or sometimes it's a woman standing in Chinatown looking at an elephant ceramic pot. I don't understand what those have to do with email either, but I guess the people at Yahoo have a secret joke, or are using family members or people they know for these photos. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that they are kinda stupid and unrelative to email and especially this photo of the Kid Rock look alike.
Sincerely,
An Yahoo email user, but prefer Gmail because they don't have annoying log in photos.
