This past week, I was busy getting together tons of paintings to send to a new gallery, called "Lola" in Roswell, GA. I discovered this gallery by way of another artist.. I was really happy when they contacted me back and said they would take some of my paintings. I had to hurry and get several minipops together, because they would be at a Folk Fest this weekend. I painted up 12 minipops in 2 days! My record amount of paintings is around 34 paintings in 2 days... I think my hand almost fell off after that, lol.
In an earlier blog entry, I posted all 12 minipops... below are the other paintings I sent to them. I will also be sending them some plush dolls that they will be selling in their store, not at the Folk Fest.
Rich over at "The Pop Shop" in Lakewood, Ohio, made this video and it has one of my fish poptoon paintings in it. Thanks Rich! Check out my work there if you are in the area...
I think it's pretty amazing when a child is talented with art at a very young age. I discovered this article about this child painting a dragon... even though it's actually his uncle that painted the picture, the 4 year old made a drawing of the dragon, over on the left, and his uncle painted his version of it. At first I thought this was a child prodigy article, but it's still cute none the less.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) --
He's not even in kindergarten yet, but four-year-old Logan Pierson's
artwork is already at the center of an art exhibit in Charleston. His artwork was on display during Charleston's annual FestivALL. Logan
says his artwork actually started as an experiment for his uncle Jeff
who has been an artist and illustrator in Charleston for the past 10
years. We're told
Logan just used a little imagination and some crayons to create the
dragon named Reasy. Then, his uncle Jeff Pierson used acrylic and water
color to transform Reasy into something eye catching. Logan's family says he's always had an imagination even at an early age, but he's also very critical of his work. The dragon is the first art piece Jeff and Logan have collaborated on, but Jeff says the duo plan to do more.
There are several child prodigy painters that are just absolutely amazing. I remember first seeing Alexandra Nechita back in the mid 90's at her brilliant cubist style paintings. The paintings are HUGE! She was 10 years old and had already sold millions of dollars worth of her art.
I came across this young artist today. His name is Josh Johnson and he just started painting a year ago? Wow. In just a year, his paintings look like they were made by a master. Pretty incredible.
And this child, Freddie Linsky. I'm not really sure to call him a "prodigy" but just a child artist. He's already got shows and his work is sold and shown online? Thoughts?
Here is a painting that my 4 year old, at the time, nephew made. Definitely on the same level as Marla Olmstead, but Noah doesn't have the exposure and marketing like that little girl does... Noah was so proud of this painting!!

took some more shots of the painting outside today. it was partly cloudy, so it's not as bright as i wanted to get, but it will do.
i will be listing it on ebay tonight if anyone is interested. it's huge 30"x30" on a thick gallery wrapped canvas.
here is the link to the auction on ebay, just started tonight:

I've been thinking about how much my artwork has changed or "evolved" over the years lately... it's gone from pretty eclectic, to cartoony, to abstract, to comic, to modern, to child-like, etc... I love experimenting with all sorts of styles and then I always go back to the pop style that I love so much. Having sold on ebay for a long long time, and that was my first real venue for selling my art, I was thinking about going back on there and selling a few things from time to time. Today after lunch a couple friends that I used to work with mentioned, "You still sell on ebay don't you?" and I replied no, because their fees are too high...
Right now, I have my paintings for sale in 3 galleries (Ohio and California), on etsy and on Boundless Gallery... but Ebay is such an awesome market. More and more people get to see your work on there probably more so than any other website. You can't beat that market compared to any one else's website.
As much as I wanted to get away from the auction like atmosphere, and as much as I wanted to get away from their high fees and everything else, I just might try and sell a couple paintings on there again. I would definitely have to adjust my prices for the paintings though, considering my showing in the 3 galleries. I know some places shun on the fact that you list on ebay, so I would have to make sure my prices are equal or near the value that I sell with them too.
If you are reading this and have bought from me before, or even if you haven't, let me know in the comments if you think I should, or would like to see my work there again. Right now I'm just at the point of flipping a coin. I get emails every now and then asking where I went from ebay... since I was one of the first original artists selling on there back in 1998, before EBSQ, before anything else started and before the hype... I wanted to see how the market now would take my work. Would I have the same following of my work that I did before? Is the market on ebay the same as it once was? I think a lot of other artists are trying other venues like Overstock, etsy, and others, but always end up coming back to Ebay because of the exposure it gives them.
Just a thought...
I have been wanting to make a comic website for awhile, with all my comic type drawings I've done over the years... so finally I signed up another blog with blogger and posted the new website minipoptoon.com
I will try and have a new comic at least once a week, possibly more... I've also posted the code underneath each drawing, so that you can post them on your blog, myspace page, or even in your friend's myspace comments section.
I try to make all my comics kid friendly, however there might be one or two, every now and then that will be more adult based ;) so watch out for those (like the ones below)
I'm still trying to figure out all this xml code stuff on blogger... it's interesting, yet tricky. I'm used to old school coding, html style, lol. I remember sitting at my old packard bell computer back in 1994 trying to figure out how to make a basic website with html.
Anyway, check out my new comic site if you are interested... thanks and tell your friends!
