Blogging like a doocearama. Is it possible?
So my dad comes to me and starts talking about some website he heard about on the Today show... "Jelene have you heard about that lady on the internet that blogs?... She's average looking stay at home mom and blogs everyday and makes $40k a month just from blogging? Why can't you do that?"
I knew right off who he was talking about. I mean, who doesn't know about Heather B. Armstrong from dooce? She is the blogging queen of the interwebnets. I remember first reading her blog in 2002 or 2003, before her daughter Leta was born. She and her husband where ripping out their kitchen and remodeling it... At that time, she wasn't as popular, she didn't have google ads and other ads like she does now, and she wasn't making a gazillion dollars just for writing like she is now. It seemed like every blog back then I came across had a link to dooce.com. Every-single-one. I even had a link to dooce.com. I think through the power of linkage, and the story about her getting fired from her job because she blogged, and her wonderful sense of humor, started the whole dooce popularity across the interwebs.
I was telling my dad also that it would be pretty difficult to have what dooce has. I doubt seriously that any blogger out there could make that much money as she does. She has a huge following and she's a hilarious writer, so people keep coming back for more.
I see so many people that wonder what a blog is? What is IT really? A place where people can talk about stuff, their lives, happenings, anything you want. Dooce's website is just a continuing journal of her life. It's like an online reality show and people love it. People connect with her, with her silly explanations of things in life, her depression troubles, her views on mormans, the silly things her extended family does and her dogs.
It is possible to make some income blogging, but I doubt anyone else could hit it big like dooce has now, unless you are a celebrity already or just very very lucky with ads.
