A lovely and fun way to decorate your sidewalk!! By eklektick :)
This area near the fence was covered in weeds and looked horrible... I pulled all that out and laid some plastic down and covered it with some new pine straw. I also added some solar lights and placed these ceramic orbs by Virginia Scotchie, my former ceramics professor at USC (Univ. of South Carolina) One summer back around 1995 or so, she hired me as her assistant to help her with a few ceramic orb installations. We made the molds out of plaster, from various sized plastic balls, some of the orbs ending up being quite huge... around 2'-3' or so in height. I love seeing them placed outside like this, because this is how Virginia intended them to be with the installations she had. The blue orbs were in a garden covered in moss... the yellow orbs were placed outside of the State Museum, in a patio area outside the museum. Also see my old wooden bird house, that says, "Free seed!" some stupid squirrel knocked it down off my hanger and dumped all the bird seed out :(
I know it's been awhile since I've posted anything on here... been working on different projects outside the studio and some personal projects that needed to get done. In the meantime, I've been seeing a lot of artists making their own toys from pourable molds. I've been dabbling about this idea myself for a new project this summer (like I need another thing on my list that needs completing!!) by sculpting my poptoon characters out of sculpey, then making a mold from that. Check out these cool toys below that I found on flickr. Maybe they will inspire you to make your own toy this summer!!
I just love this translucent pink toy by Grumble! http://www.flickr.com/photos/grumbletoy/
